World Vitiligo Day 2011
The first Vitiligo Awareness Day or Purple Fun Day - what it was called then - was brought to life by Ogo Maduewesi, Founder and President of Vitiligo Support and Awareness Foundation (VITSAF) at Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria. Artists and comedians entertained guests who were treated to Michael Jacksons songs and MJ dance moves, as a memorial to the late King Of Pop. Dermatologist and motivational speaker spoke about burden of vitiligo in front of hundreds of people that walked in into Silverbird Galleria on that day. As Ogo wrote in her post "It was so humbling and revealing as people confessed to their ignorance and so happy for the new knowledge... by June 2012, we will be taking Vitiligo Awareness to different cities in Nigeria and across Africa." The online petition launched at Petitions24 on June 18, 2011. First 111 signatures were collected on the first World Vitiligo Day (pdf).
Early next year, VR Foundation helped to re-name the campaign, developed marketing materials and launched www.25June.org, which became the official site of the World Vitiligo Day campaign, on January 18, 2012.

I support the petition to designate June 25 as Vitiligo World Day and save millions of people worldwide from social isolation and persecution.
