The Iași Dermatological Spring (PDI) conference is a cornerstone event for Europe's dermatology community.
This year, it is set against the elegant backdrop of Hotel Internațional from April 15-19. Under the skilled leadership of Prof. Dr. Daciana Elena Brănişteanu, serving as chair, and Dana Iulia Popescu as vice president, the conference draws together luminaries in the field. The honorary Board, featuring experts like Profs. Torello Lotti, Niazi Khursow, Dominik Heim, Aristidis Tsatsakis, Viorel Scripcariu, among others, ensures a rich and diverse exploration of dermatological advances.
PDI 2024 is organized into three focused sessions, each tackling different aspects of dermatology:
- Caleidoscop Dermatologic: Discusses topics such as mycosis fungoides, the underlying mechanisms of atopic dermatitis, various acne treatments, iatrogenic alopecia, and advancements in laser and high-pulsed light therapies.
- Noi Frontiere ale Diagnosticului și Terapiilor Inovatoare: This session dives into the latest diagnostic tools and innovative treatments, spotlighting the use of artificial intelligence in patient education and new treatments for acne, allergies, and dermatitis.
- Dermatologie Clinică, Estetică, Funcțională și Regenerativă: Explores a range of topics related to the clinical, aesthetic, functional, and regenerative sides of dermatology.
Highlights include presentations by Prof. Lotti, who discussed “Romantic Love, Skin Diseases, and Anti-Aging Strategies,” and Yan Valle, who explored the “Use of AI in Vitiligo Patient Education.” These talks provide insights into both the human and technological sides of dermatology. Another presentation explored connections between dermatology and mental health, including side-effects of antidepressants, - a topic we shall investigate further here at VR Foundation.
PDI transcends the typical conference format, embodying a community event steeped in the enduring tradition of Romanian hospitality. What makes PDI stand out is its welcoming, almost family-like atmosphere, which provides a refreshing contrast to the more commercial ambiance of larger medical conferences. This inviting environment not only fosters genuine connections among participants but also significantly enhances learning and networking opportunities, making it easy for attendees to engage on a personal level.
Whether you're a seasoned professional deepening your expertise or a student beginning your adventure in European dermatology, the Iași Dermatological Spring conference is an event you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendar on April 7-11 as a key highlight of the year 2025.

PDI Congress Closing Ceremony
The PDI Congress wrapped up with a grand closing ceremony held in a splendid historical building, the heart of Iași's social and political life. Distinguished guests, including the Mayor of Iași, Mr. Miha Chirica, and Prof. Daciana Elena Brănişteanu, gathered in the main hall, surrounded by masterful artworks and serenaded by classical music from a live quartet.
The ceremony was not only a formal affair but also a celebration of the congress's success and the vibrant city of Iași. It was widely acknowledged, echoing Prof. Yan Valle's sentiments, that the PDI Congress stands out among dermatological conferences globally for its practical, scientifically robust approach, blending professional enrichment with personal experiences.
Remarkably well-attended, the sessions ran from 9 AM to 7 PM over five days, a testament to the congress's value beyond just business and socializing, which is often the focus at major conferences.
The evening concluded with an awards presentation, honoring significant contributors to Romanian dermatology, including an Honorary Presidency awarded to CEO Prof. Yan Valle. The ceremony was capped off with a banquet featuring exquisite local cuisine, perfectly encapsulating the congress's spirit of tradition and community.
