Assiut University plans to enroll about 40 participants. The study uses controlled ultraviolet light, sometimes with an immune-modulating medicine. UV light can stimulate surviving melanocytes and may help affected skin regain color. Possible effects include redness, itching, dryness, sunburn-like reactions, and with repeated exposure, premature skin aging or a higher skin-cancer risk. The study record does not list an age range.
