Upadacitinib with light therapy for nonsegmental vitiligo

Official title: A Phase 3, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Double-Blind Study to Evaluate the Efficacy, Safety, and Tolerability of Upadacitinib in Adult and Adolescent Subjects With Non-Segmental Vitiligo Who Are Eligible for Systemic Therapy

Status: Closed to new participants

Description:

AbbVie enrolled about 614 participants. Upadacitinib is an oral JAK inhibitor that reduces inflammatory immune signaling. Researchers hope it will slow melanocyte destruction and improve repigmentation, alone or after cell transplantation. Upadacitinib is sold as Rinvoq and is approved for atopic dermatitis and several other inflammatory conditions; vitiligo would be a new use. Possible effects include infections, acne, nausea, and headache; serious risks can include blood clots and major cardiovascular events. People age 12 and older may qualify. The study is underway but is no longer accepting new participants.
