News - 14 Dec `24AI-Guide on Vitiligo: From Text to Audio to Facetime

New

Launched in September 2023, the AI-Guide on Vitiligo has quickly become a trusted resource for patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers. Supporting over 50 languages, it provides accurate, instant answers on vitiligo research, treatments, nutrition, mental health, and coping strategies.

Designed for the Vitiligo Community

This is no ordinary AI chatbot. Built specifically for the vitiligo community, the guide delivers personalized solutions, such as local specialist recommendations and curated reading lists, tailored to users' unique needs.

Adoption and Engagement Across the Globe

With over 1,000 active users across 62 countries, the AI-Guide has achieved a strong global presence. Adoption has been especially high in Pakistan, South Korea, and Japan. Brazil, Mexico, and Poland showed similar engagement patterns, while Germany surpassed the US and Canada in questions asked.

Engagement metrics also reflect the guide’s value: users in Iraq average 27 minutes per session, followed by Nepal with 11 minutes and Algeria with 10 minutes. The overall average session duration of 6 minutes underscores the platform’s relevance and effectiveness.

The AI-Guide has become a vital "second opinion" in the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America, while users in North America and Japan rely on it for insurance tips, dietary guidance, and mental health support. Crucially, it prioritizes privacy, ensuring no personal data is collected.

Video Avatars: Making it Personal

Initially text-based, the AI-Guide expanded in mid-2024 with audio features, creating a richer user experience. By December 2024, it introduced a video avatar at the VIPOC Conference in Cairo (see photo below), offering real-time interaction via text, audio, and video. This human-like feature adapts its tone, uses visual aids, and supports users on both physical and emotional levels, marking a significant milestone in vitiligo care.

Advancing Care Through Collaboration

In fall 2024, the Vitiligo Research Foundation partnered with Skinopathy, a leading Canadian AI company, to develop advanced dermatology tools. These include selfie-based diagnostic aids, personalized treatment recommendations, and region-specific care insights, all aimed at improving outcomes for individuals with vitiligo.

As 2025 begins, the AI-Guide remains committed to empowering the vitiligo community with trusted information, personalized care, and meaningful support worldwide.
