Topical fluorouracil for stable vitiligo

Official title: Development and Clinical Evaluation of Topical 5-Fluorouracil Effervescent Powder Formulation in the Treatment of Vitiligo

Description:

Al-Azhar University plans to enroll about 60 participants. Fluorouracil is applied after needling or laser treatment to encourage pigment cells to move into pale skin. Researchers hope the combination will improve repigmentation in stable vitiligo. Fluorouracil is sold under brands including Efudex for certain precancerous and superficial cancerous skin lesions; vitiligo would be a new use. Possible effects include redness, pain, peeling, sores, pigment changes, and infection. People ages 10 to 70 may qualify. The study is recruiting at one listed site in Egypt.
